About this database

Back

This list of Japanese Butterflies (Hesperioidea and Papilionoidea) is made for handy reference from the checklist of Japanese Lepidoptera, which has been edited and will be issued soon by the Entomological Society of Japan. With 328 species the listing of each species includes scientific name, the corresponding Japanese name, author and date of original description. These species are arranged systematically and a number of recent changes of names are adopted. We would like to express our hearty thanks to many lepidopterists and others who have helped us in the preparation of this list.
